Jefferson Ex-Student Association Newsletter
Another BIG BASH underway!!
The Association will hold Jefferson’s 60 at the This big event is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2009, from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. All classes, exes, and friends are INVITED…
Class Banquets El Paso Convention Center:
All classes, exes and friends are invited to hold reunion
banquets, but because of the event year 2009, preference
for banquet facilities will be given to the 9er classes
(1959, 1969, 1979, 1989, and 1999) as well as the first
graduating class of 1950. Other classes can join these
9er banquets if they so wish. Banquet facilities will provide
the podium and microphone and will be available
from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the day of the 60
(11/21/09). There is a minimum 50 guest guarantee for
each banquet facility. Individual classes can plan/add
other events as they choose for their own reunion.
Classes that want to reserve a banquet facility need to do
so by January 27, 2009 (the sooner the better). We will
need name of class contact(s), and number of tables required.
All reserved tables need to be paid within 30 days
or they will be released. The El Paso Convention Center
banquet facility offers three menus to pick from. If a 9er
class does not participate and another class year does,
you are more than welcome to join them. Again, there are
several banquet facilities available. 9er classes please
contact Leo Gonzales at 584-2542 to make your banquet
facility reservations.

Jefferson’s High 60th Diamond Anniversary
Hello Jefferson Silver Foxes!
It has been awhile since the last newsletter was issued,
but the Jefferson Alumni Association continues to be active
in many ways. It has been approximately three years
since the membership elected me as the President and,
rest assured, we have been doing things in a much bigger
way. Since being elected, the Association has awarded
approximately $40,000 in scholarships to both Jefferson
and Silva Magnet graduates. In addition, the Association
has contributed over $10,000 to student-related activities.
I would be remiss if I did not point out the fact that none of
this would have been possible if not for the generous contributions
from various alumni and the hard work of Association
members. We have some very active committees
as part of the Association and one in particular, the Special
Event committee, has done a tremendous job in coordinating
dinner/dance events over the last two years with great
success. We are currently looking at having a spring
event in the form of a “Sock Hop” which will be scheduled
for Valentine’s Day and will be held at the Jefferson High
School cafeteria. Please make every effort to join us.
As you read on, the main purpose of this newsletter is to
advertise Jefferson High School’s 60
In this case, we have members of the Moye’s Boys that
are coordinating this event. We ask that you please support
this event as the proceeds will be used to make personal
contributions to Jefferson staff and students that
have a special need. I will now close by asking you to also
read the article regarding membership in the Association.
I realize that many of you have other priorities, but all we
are asking for is a couple of hours a month and to join us
in the various events that are sponsored during the year.
See you at the 60

We encourage other classes to try to get their groups together
as soon as possible, and start making their table
purchases and/or banquet reservations. As soon as this
newsletter is out purchases on tables will increase and we
don’t want anybody left out.

It is a group of Jeff Exes from the ‘50s, 60s, 70s, and some 80s that have been together for over 10 years meeting every
Thursday and Saturday for breakfast at the Amigo Restaurant. Mr. Moye for many years during this time preferred many
breakfast meetings with the boys than anything else. The title
principal, school board president and mainly a great mentor and great friend to many Jefferson ex-students, even parents,
family members, and anybody associated with Jefferson. Another group the “
relationship to Mr. Moye.
These groups were very instrumental in helping name the Jefferson High School gym H.R. Moye, and also the
H.R. Moye Elementary school in northeast El Paso.
So it is with great pleasure that these groups along with the Jefferson Ex-Student Association have come together to
celebrate Jefferson 60

last visited your alma mater, Thomas Jefferson High
School. A lot of things have changed, but certainly not our
warm feelings for the high school that earned our hearts.
We, the Jefferson Ex-Students Association, are inviting
you to visit again, this time as an alumnus interested in
advocating and supporting the academic efforts of the
new generations of Jefferson High School students.
We meet on a monthly basis to discuss ways to best
assist the present Jefferson students. This support takes
on various forms, but the major aspect of the Ex-Students
Association is to raise funds for scholarships for worthy
students of our old school. We also accept requests from
other student organizations in the school that need some
sort of financial assistance and we do our best to help in
that area.
We meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm
at the Student Activities Room at Jefferson High School.
You and your spouse may both join us; however, only the
ex-student has voting privileges. The Association dues
are minimal; only $1.00 per member per year. Join us and
bring your talents with you. Help us help the younger
generations of Jefferson High School students.
We hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Armida H. Hernandez
